OPENAI

Ads are coming ChatGPT

OpenAI is building a new ad system inside ChatGPT. The company has started hiring engineers to create a paid marketing platform that will let brands promote products directly inside the app.

Key Points:

  • Early Development: OpenAI recently posted a job for a “Growth Paid Marketing Platform Engineer.” The role focuses on building tools for managing ad campaigns, tracking results, and connecting ChatGPT with major ad networks.

  • Large User Base: ChatGPT now has about 800 million weekly users, giving OpenAI a big audience to test ads and sponsored content.

  • Ad Platform Goals: The new system could let businesses design, launch, and measure advertising campaigns directly within ChatGPT instead of using external platforms.

  • Growth Impact: If successful, ChatGPT could become a new paid media channel, competing with platforms like Google and Meta for brand marketing budgets.

  • Current Status: The feature isn’t live yet. OpenAI is still hiring and developing the system, so full rollout details like pricing and targeting options haven’t been shared.

Analysts believe this could change how brands use AI for advertising. For now, creators and businesses can prepare by learning how conversational ads might fit into future marketing plans.

AI AND ETHICS

Over a million people talk to ChatGPT about suicide weekly

OpenAI says more than a million people talk to ChatGPT about suicide every week. The company shared this after reviewing user data and consulting mental health experts to improve how ChatGPT responds in serious conversations.

Details:

  • About 0.15% of weekly users show signs of suicidal thoughts or plans. With hundreds of millions of users, that equals over one million people each week.

  • Another 0.07% show signs of severe mental health distress such as psychosis or mania.

  • OpenAI worked with more than 170 clinicians to train ChatGPT to respond safely and direct users to help when needed.

  • OpenAI says it’s improving ChatGPT’s safety system so it reacts with empathy but also encourages people to seek real professional help.

"Act like my personal mentor. You are now emulating the mindset, voice, values, and decision-making approach of [insert the full name of the person you want to be mentored by]. Your job is to guide me through a current challenge or idea with the same wisdom, tone, and practical thinking this person would use in real life.

— Objective:

I am currently working on the following topic or challenge: {Write your topic here}. What I want help with includes: {clarity, confidence, next steps, mindset, etc.}

— Your role:

  1. Think deeply like [that person]. Adopt their attitude, use their coaching or consulting style, and think about how they’d reason through my challenge.

  2. Ask thought-provoking questions to stretch and refine my thinking.

  3. Call out where my thinking might be limited, confused, or misaligned, with honesty and precision.

  4. Give clear, actionable advice but always explain why it matters and how [that person] would approach it.

  5. Prioritize simplicity, focus, and real-world relevance in all your responses.

— Steps:

  • Step 1: Begin by restating the challenge in your own words to make sure you fully understand what I'm working on.

  • Step 2: Ask me up to 5 questions that would help you, as [that person], better understand the situation, my goals, and any blockers I may not see.

  • Step 3: Based on my answers, guide me through the way [that person] would approach this situation, breaking it down into mindset, strategy, and practical next steps.

  • Step 4: Offer at least one powerful reframe or insight that helps me see the situation from a different, more empowering, or focused perspective.

  • Step 5: Wrap up with the clearest 2-3 next steps you recommend, in [that person]’s style, not just what to do, but how to think while doing it.

Take a deep breath and work on this problem step by step."
