GOOGLE

Google sues web scraper for sucking up search results.

Google has sued a web scraping company for taking its search results on a vast scale. Google says the company pulled search data without permission and sold it to others. The case focuses on how search results are used and protected.

Key Points:

  • Google filed the lawsuit against SerpApi, a company that collects search results and turns them into data for customers.

  • Google says SerpApi submitted fake searches that appeared to be from real people. This helped them bypass Google’s blocks and copy search results.

  • Google argues that this harms its business and violates copyright laws. It also says it weakens deals with partners who pay to use Google data properly.

  • SerpApi denies wrongdoing & says the data comes from pages anyone can see online, and that Google is trying to stop competition.

  • So, Google is asking the court to stop the scraping, award damages, and force the company to destroy its tools.

This case is part of a bigger fight about who owns online data and how other companies can use it.

AI AND INNOVATION

ChatGPT launches a year-end review like Spotify Wrapped.

OpenAI has launched a year-end review for ChatGPT, similar to Spotify Wrapped. It gives users a simple way to look back at how they used ChatGPT throughout the year.

Details:

  • The feature is called Your Year with ChatGPT & shows a summary of your past-year chats.

  • It tells you things like how many messages you sent, which topics you asked about most, and which day you used ChatGPT the most.

  • It also gives you a personality label based on how you used ChatGPT.

  • The review does not open by itself. You can either see it on the home screen or ask ChatGPT.

It is available to free, Plus, and Pro users who have chat history turned on. Work and school accounts are not included.
