xAI has launched Grok Imagine, an AI tool inside the Grok chatbot on X (formerly Twitter) that creates images and short videos from text prompts. • Image and Video Generation: Grok Imagine can make still images, short videos (about 6–15 seconds), and even add music, sound effects, or dialogue.

• Creative Features: Users can start with an image and animate it, edit prompts in real time, and use an optional “spicy mode” for suggestive content, though some explicit visuals are blurred or blocked.

• Access and Availability: It’s in beta for SuperGrok ($30/month) users and select testers. A waitlist is open for Premium+ subscribers, with broader access expected by late 2025.

• Risks and Moderation: Looser content rules raise concerns about deepfakes and misuse. xAI is under pressure to follow safety and consent laws for AI‑generated media.

Perplexity Accused of Secretly Scraping Blocked Websites

Perplexity is being accused of scraping websites that told AI crawlers to stay out. Cloudflare, which protects many sites, says the AI startup bypassed blocks and acted like a normal user to grab data from sites that didn’t want to be scraped.

Details:

• Cloudflare says Perplexity’s bots ignored robots.txt and firewall rules, which are the standard ways websites say “no” to crawlers.

• The bots allegedly pretended to be regular browsers and rotated IP addresses to sneak past protections.

• Cloudflare removed Perplexity from its verified bot list and is now blocking what it calls “stealth crawling,” but Perplexity has denied breaking the rules and says Cloudflare’s claims are overblown.

• Website owners and publishers warn that this raises legal and trust issues, including copyright concerns and possible lawsuits.

Some big media sites, like the New York Times and Condé Nast, have already complained about Perplexity using their content without permission.
