NEWS OF THE WEEK

Why Entry-Level Jobs Are Vanishing (It’s AI)

For decades, entry-level roles have provided essential training grounds for newcomers to step into the world of work. But as AI reshapes the career ladder, these early entry points could be increasingly at risk.

  Think of things like:

  • Junior coding jobs → now handled by AI like GitHub Copilot

  • Customer support reps → replaced by AI chatbots

  • Basic admin work → done by AI assistants

Even inside tech companies, they’re skipping entry-level hires. They’d rather hire experienced people who know how to manage and use AI tools. Fast food chains like Hungry Jack’s and KFC are also testing AI drive-thru systems. This means fewer opportunities for young people looking for their first job.

 So What Can You Do?

This shift isn’t going away. Here’s how to stay ahead:

  • Learn AI tools: You don’t need to be an expert, but you should know how to use the tools taking over your field.

  • Focus on skills AI can’t replace: Critical thinking, storytelling, emotional intelligence, and leadership still matter.

  • Start small projects: Build your own thing. Freelance. Create. Don’t wait for “traditional” roles that might not come back.

Perplexity received 780 million queries last month

Perplexity AI's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, announced that the company handled 780 million search queries in May 2025, marking a 20% month-over-month growth. This surge underscores Perplexity's rapid ascent in the AI-driven search engine market, positioning it as a formidable competitor to established players like Google. Source

X Bans Use of Its Content for AI Training

As of June 2025, X updated its developer agreement to prohibit the use of its platform's posts for training or fine-tuning AI models. This move aligns with similar actions taken by other platforms like Reddit, which have restricted AI companies from accessing their content for training purposes. Source
