OpenAI is scanning ChatGPT conversations, reporting some cases to the police

OpenAI is scanning ChatGPT conversations and may report some cases to the police. The company says this only happens when reviewers believe there is a clear and immediate threat of harm to others.
Key Points:
Conversation Review: Chats are automatically flagged if they look dangerous, then checked by a human moderation team.
Law Enforcement Referral: If the reviewers decide there’s an urgent risk of serious harm, the case can be sent to police.
Self-Harm Cases: OpenAI says it does not report conversations about self-harm to authorities, though they may still be reviewed.
Privacy Concerns: This policy challenges the idea that ChatGPT chats are private, and has raised debate among users.
Future Changes: OpenAI is planning encryption for temporary chats so they don’t appear in history or training data, though full end-to-end encryption isn’t available yet.
Reviews and reactions online show that people are worried about privacy and how much control OpenAI should have, but also recognize the need to prevent real danger.

AI AND PRIVACY
Anthropic’s new policy wants users to choose to share chats for AI training or opt out

Anthropic just added a new policy that asks users to choose whether to share their chats for AI training or opt out to keep them private.
Details:
You’ll see a pop-up asking if you agree to let Anthropic use your new chats and coding sessions to train Claude.
If you don’t pick an option by September 28, 2025, your access to Claude will be paused until you decide.
If you agree, Anthropic can keep your chats for up to five years and use them to improve its models.
If you opt out, your chats won’t be used for training, and you can change this choice anytime in your Privacy Settings.
Enterprise, education, and API users aren’t affected, this only applies to individual Claude Free, Pro, Max, and Code plans.
The toggle is set to “On” by default, so you’ll need to switch it off if you don’t want to share your chats.
